Kaffelogic Nano 7e Coffee Roaster User Review
Connect 2 Ways:
the latest 2024 unit comes with a USB Cable connection so you can directly connect to your PC Kaffelogic Studio software (the older/gen1 model can only use a USB Memory stick) to the roaster; the Studio, allows you to create Profiles, and seamlessly transfer Roast Profiles to the roaster, and edit the profile on the fly using the Kaffelogic Studio profiling software, as well as downloading roaster Firmware updates. A USB stick can also be used to transfer data with this latest model, too!
The latest Firmware has the all new WIFI setting for the new wifi adaptor kit called 'Kaffelogic Connect' which has recently been launched!
The PC Kaffelogic Studio software once connected with the roaster, allows you LIVE roast profile editing; it also has a useful DTR (Development Time Ratio) setting!
The Kaffelogic Nano 7, has an Internal Memory of: 14MB, mostly used for logs; each log equates to 100kb!
The Roaster comes with 12 Roast Profiles preinstalled which have been developed by coffee specialist Wayne Burrows, former Africa Barista Champion!
You can edit profiles to your liking from your PC using the Kaffelogic Studio software! You can also do back to back roasting, so no need to reheat or cool down first!
Ready-to-Drink Roasts:
The roaster comes preinstalled with a sample of RTD profiles...
Normally, freshly roasted coffees have to rest (degas) for a 5 days after roasting before they are ground. This is basically the case with the Kaffelogic Nano 7e.
However, the type of Heat Transfer also allows for ready-to-drink roasting, in which the coffee can be drunk immediately after roasting!
Kaffelogic provides specific roasting profiles for this.
The Kaffelogic Nano 7 Roaster can operate on it's on without hooking up to a PC or WIFI/GPS (the Ikawa Home roaster, has to connect to Wifi and GPS to track your roasts), as it holds 12 preinstalled profiles for repeatable roasts each time; you can transfer Roast Profiles to the roaster from your PC Kaffelogic Studio to save, and you're ready to roast when you switch it on; just use the LCD panel on the front of the roaster to activate your chosen Profile or change settings!
The Chaff Collector has been improved with a double layered borosilicate glass wall (old version had plastic glass), but still has to be improved height wise to accommodate the BOOST Kit, as folk's have complained that beans are entering the chaff collector, but KL said that this can be resolved by altering the fan cool speed at the end of the roast...
The BOOST Kit V2, can increase the capacity to 200g of greens; if you're roasting light!
It's expensive at £150 for 2 ring (short and long) inserts with an Activation Code for one PC only; it also requires activation through an Internet connection via Kaffelogic; this allows for a higher capacity roast; if you know a bit of coding, then using the KL Studio Engineer settings, you could tweak in the correct settings to allow for a higher 200g capacity, but that's only if you know what you're doing; but you'll save lots of dosh!
The DC Motor is now brushless for years of service.
The Bean Sensor/Exhaust Probe, is excellent, and the position spot on, for more accurate roasting temperatures!
The Build Quality could be far better with less plastic; a more securely mounted (screwed on) roasting chamber; a safer ejection system; bigger quality buttons; and a detachable power cord with extra cable length!
The Ikawa Home roaster, wins on build quality by a long shot!
There were many reports of Thermal Fuse, Heating Element, Motor, Probe, and Fan failures which were hit and miss with older units; feedback tells me they have improved these components in the newer model!
The Kaffelogic Nano 7 comes with a 2-year warranty, covering parts and service for any manufacturer defects. This is a sign of confidence in the unit!
UK Agent: Kaffelogic, now have a UK Agent who sell the units, and cover servicing and repairs, so that's great!
In my opinion, the Kaffelogic Nano 7 (2024 model), gives the Ikawa Home roaster, a run for it's money, with a number of popular features in the Kaffelogic Nano 7.
In summary, I do like the capabilties of this roaster, and the roasts it produces, including the Software editing suite, and roast profile transfers, but there are concerns that have been raised about wrist injuries resulting from having to lift the roaster up and on it's side (3.5KG's) to turn the batch out; there should be a safety warning on the box; it also creates a safety issue in accidently dropping the unit, too, due to the roaster body being smooth and shiny with no way to grip it securely!
